About Glenn

My name is Glenn Martin

Photo of Glenn Martinand I’m professional photographer in Canberra Australia

I’ve lived in Canberra since the early 1990s and have watched this “small country town” transform into a photographic hotspot. There’s so many iconic locations around Canberra and we experience both amazing sunrises and sunsets on a regular basis. The Brindabellas to our west provide a particularly fantastic backdrop for when colour explodes across the sky

It doesn’t end after the sun goes down either. Canberra is a great base for astrophotography. Those crisp clear winter nights in particular and I don’t have to travel far out of town to be able to capture the night’s sky. I just love pointing the camera up into the darkness - sometimes for hours - to see what I can capture

In 2018 I was a finalist AIPP Australian Emerging Photographer of the Year in the Australian Professional Photography Awards (APPAs) and in 2019 I was a Top 10 finalist in the Capture Magazine Emerging Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards

I have always enjoyed taking photos love both the creativeness and technicality that comes with good photography. You will often find my photographs in social media and in the news featuring iconic Canberra landscapes and locations

Photography experience

As well as being an experienced photography workshop facilitator, I’m also well versed across a number of genres and my clients have included government departments, private business and individuals

Landscape photography

I’ve been shooting landscapes for as long as I’ve held a camera. From the ground and in the air the Australian landscape just has so much to offer. You can see my prints in person at the Canberra Handmade Markets

Aerial photography

Have photographed many times from both helicopter and fixed wing aircraft in Canberra and around Australia.

Astrophotography and low light photography

Photographing the night sky can be one of the most rewarding photography experiences but be warned it can be addictive! I've been teaching astrophotography since 2018 so if you're interested in learning it for yourself you can look at my Introduction to Astrophotography page

Wedding photography

I’ve photographed weddings since 2016 and have shot all over Canberra and the surrounding region. Location shoots at the National Arboretum, Mount Stromlo, SkySpace, National Museum, Lennox Gardens, the cork forest, National Botanic Gardens, Lanyon Homestead, Ginninderry Homestead and so many more locations. Ceremonies at the Margaret Whitlam Pavilion, The Chapel Gungahlin, numerous churches, Pialligo Estate, Poachers Pantry, Brindabella Hills Winery, Lake George Winery and more

Events photography

Shooting for everyone from major government departments, to outdoor cinemas and private gatherings. I blend into the background and don't get in the way of important events. Always available to get those candid photos and can run to a shoot list as well. Fast turnaround of images supplied digitally in multiple formats for social media and print

Corporate head shots and portraiture photography

Family and individual portraits, corporate head shots, environmental portraiture and more

Media

I have also had a number of media interviews on radio and the news about the different types of photography I do because I just love to share information and get people excited about photography. Check out the following link to see where I’ve been featured in the media

What inspires me in photography

The thing I love the most about photography is the feeling I get when I know I have captured “that moment”. Such as the feeling of excitement I get when I capture an amazing lightning strike, the feeling of serenity from a beautiful sunset, and the feeling of connection through a great portrait.

I take a lot of photos of Canberra and have regularly received feedback that my photos show people a side of their city they haven’t seen before and that it makes them want to explore it. Comments like that are also the things that push me to keep on taking great photos and continue working on my craft.

Photography for me is both a creative outlet and an opportunity to explore techniques – both in camera and in post processing – that can lift a photo to really capture what my eye saw.
