I’m a Canberra based professional photographer. Here’s some questions and answers about buying my photographic prints
Who creates your photo prints?
Me, right here in Australia! Usually. I have been making my prints since 2017 and have sold hundreds and hundreds of prints without a single return (see warranty below). By creating my own prints I can be sure of the quality control and that the output is aligned with my vision. I can create prints up to A1 in width on the short edge and as long as you want in a panorama. For larger sizes I may need to outsource the creation, but my warranty will still apply
Do you make Giclee prints in Canberra?
Yes. Giclee (pronounced “zhee-clay”) prints are often defined by: high resolution images, printed with pigmented inks, on archival quality paper, on a large format printer – all of which describes my prints
What do you print your photos with?
I predominantly print on a large format 24” Epson SC-P7560 printer using Epson’s UltraChrome® Pro12 all-pigment aqueous ink
What about photo paper?
I print almost exclusively* on high quality Canson or Hahnemuele paper. Being a landscape photographer I have a preference for fine art matte cotton rag, sometimes with a subtle texture depending on the image. If you have different paper requirements, please use the contact form to discuss.
*Some prints may appear better on a different paper, or size considerations may dictate a different paper
Canson Certified Printer
I’m a Canson certified printer, but what does this mean for you? It means I print to the highest standard possible including:
- Printing on Canson paper
- Canson ICC profiles
- Using an archival quality printer (Epson 7560)
- Using a professional grade calibrated monitor (Eizo)
- Viewing under D50 lighting conditions
How long will the print last?
Up to 200 years*! You read that right. Epson claim that when printing with UltraChrome HD and using speciality photo & fine art media displayed indoors under glass, accelerated testing indicates light stability of up to 200 years for colour
*Will they really, really last 200 hundred years..?
Ok, let’s face it the life of the print will depend on a number of factors including climate, framing, environment etc. Epson also state that their ink lightfastness rating based on accelerated testing of prints on specialty media, displayed indoors, under glass. Actual print stability will vary according to media, printed image, display conditions, light intensity, humidity and atmospheric conditions.
To get the maximum life out of your print it is recommended:
- Handle the print as little as possible and recommend to use cotton gloves
- Frame using acid free materials for backing board and matt
- This is essential and cheap frames where MDF touches the print is one of the key reasons why prints discolour
- The frame is sealed on the back to prevent dust and humidity
- The print does not touch the glass
- Somewhere direct sunlight will not fall on the print
- If this is unavoidable use UV glass
So the above coupled with Epson’s Ultrachrome Ink, and Canson’s and Hahnemuele’s exceptional archive quality paper (generally without OBAs), you can expect a long life exceptional print quality!
How long is delivery?
Prints will generally ship 2-4 days from order via standard Australia Post.
I’ve received my print, now what?
Depending on the size of the print it may be delivered flat or rolled in a tube. If it is in a tube I recommend not removing the print until you take it to a framer. This is particularly important if it is a large print as re-rolling the print back into the tube has the risk of damaging or scratching the paper
It’s not recommended to leave the print rolled for an extended period of time so don’t take too long to get it into a frame
Do you offer a print warranty?
I offer a 90 day – no questions asked – money back guarantee. I want you to be as happy with the print as I was creating the image. It can sometimes can take a little while between receiving the print and getting it up on a wall and maybe once its there you don’t like it as much. Providing the print is returned in original condition I will refund your money within five days of receiving the print.
Note: While I will refund your purchase price for the print, I cannot reimburse you for framing or any other ancillary costs you have incurred.
What framing considerations are there?
Standard and non standard frames
I offer prints in a number of ratios.
Anything in a standard size, such as 8×12″, 20×30″ etc, is noted on the product page and you should be able to find an off the shelf frame anywhere that sells frames
Anything in a panorama such as 12×36″ will require a custom frame to be made for it and is made clear on each product page
Custom frames can get expensive so I highly recommend you get a quote for a frame before purchasing the print, particularly if you are looking at any of my prints that exceed 1m in width
Mat or no mat?
I personally recommend all my prints are framed with an acid free mat. A mat gives a nice border around the print followed by the frame itself. Prints without a mat that are flush with the frame and don’t have room to breathe. It also generally means the print is touching the glass which is not ideal
Do you sell just the digital files of your landscapes?
No, I do not sell digital files from this website for personal use. Please contact me if you are interested in licensing digital files for commercial use
Do you sell the digital files from a photoshoot we’ve done together?
It depends If you have commissioned me to do a shoot with you generally it will include the digitals. If it was a TFP (time for photos/print) agreement I may make the images available for purchase as prints but only with your informed consent
