DURATION: 5HRS 5PM-10PM • LOCATION: CANBERRA • MAX SIX PARTICIPANTS • $295 PER PERSON

I've been running these workshops since 2017 and believe it or not astro photography is easy to get started in! Within a few short hours I can teach you the basics of astro photography and open a new world to your images. But be warned, astro is addictive!
Note: the dates of these workshops are specifically selected to coincide with the best phases of the moon (ie little to no moon in the sky)
Over the course of an evening I’ll run you through the fundamentals you need to plan a successful astro shoot and capture the night’s sky. We’ll start in the classroom where we go through some basic theory including:
- My favorite planning apps for the phases of the moon and position of the stars
- Basic considerations for astro shooting such as the “500 rule”
- RAW v’s JPG for astro
- Composition composition composition!
- Camera configuration tailored to your equipment
- Fundamentals of single frame astro, star trails and panoramas
- My favorite processing programs for astro
- Note: post processing is not part of this workshop
Then we’ll head into the field ready for full astro dark, around 30 minutes from Canberra’s CBD, where we’ll set up our cameras and for three hours we’ll shoot the amazing night sky and put that theory into practice
Can't rate this course highly enough. Had amazing fun and was able to take home some shots I was very proud of. Glenn delivers his course with tons of energy and care for every one of his students. He is extremely knowledgeable, No-one misses out. Information is delivered in a well-structured way that is easy to understand. Making sure everyone was safe at night was also not overlooked. Can't recommend this course enough for everyone - it MUST be on your list. Thanks Glenn!

Experience level
This is an introduction to astro photography workshop so it covers the basics without deep diving into the subject. The goal is to teach you how to successfully photograph the night sky. Heavy theory about stars and constellations, etc will not be covered here
This course is also aimed at photographers who are advanced beginners and up. It will help if you already understand the fundamental basics of how to use and control your camera’s shutter speed, aperture and ISO. If you’ve not yet gotten off auto mode then I highly recommend my Beginner’s DSLR and Mirrorless workshop
Glenn is an excellent teacher. He knows what he’s talking about and can explain it to a group with diverse experience in photography. But most of all, Glenn makes the experience of learning inclusive and fun. He’s passionate about his photography and he passes that on. I’d highly recommend his courses

Astro photography equipment
Essential
- DSLR or Mirrorless camera, or a camera that you have full manual control over
- Wide lens of around 24mm or wider, with a large aperture preferably f/2.8
- Tripod
- Head torch
- Spare batteries – for both camera and torch
- Lots of warm clothing!
Useful
- Remote shutter trigger
- Additional lenses but leave your super zooms at home for this workshop
- More batteries!
- A second camera body, lens and tripod
Information provided in the theory session was very relevant and not overwhelming. Practical session was a lot of fun and very productive. Glenn is so patient and kind when troubleshooting issues during the practical. I felt very comfortable asking for help and I learnt a lot.

Cancellations
You can cancel your position in the workshop at least two weeks out for a full refund, If you are cancelling at less than two weeks you will forfeit 50% of your booking fee, however, you can transfer your spot to someone else
I can control a lot of things but I can’t control the weather. Only in the event of heavy cloud cover will the field trip aspect of the workshop be cancelled – we’ll still do the classroom element and reschedule the night sky as soon as possible
Glenn's astro workshop is very informative, relaxed and the mix with classroom style workshop with on field practice is great. The small class size is fantastic as this enables Glenn to spend time helping everyone out on the field. Definitely recommend to anyone who wishes to learn how to take photos of the night sky!

Easy going, calm delivery of the classroom components put me at ease
I waited a long time for this workshop, having registered prior to the COVID shutdown. My patience was rewarded with a cracker of a clear, cold night perfect for Astrophotography. Glenn’s easy going, calm delivery of the classroom components put me at ease that I wasn’t out of my depth, and I got some fabulous (as a rank amateur) shots that I am really chuffed with. I can’t recommend Glenn highly enough - everyone got a fair share of his time and expertise on the night, and the proof is in my photos and how happy I am with them. In fact, my camera is outside now taking Star Trails shots at 30 second intervals. I think I might be headed down the rabbit hole Glenn will tell you all about when you attend his course. I am not new to photography, but had never done this before.
I attended the Introduction to Astro Photography last night and it was awesome. I am not new to photography, but had never done this before. Glenn was a great instructor and was able to explain the concept as well assist with putting into practice. I would recommend any of Glenn's courses as his ability to impart knowledge was very good. Thanks for a great night Glenn on the tools, look forward to putting it into practice soon. Brett F. from Facebook

Intro to Astro
Just a fantastic workshop from a very knowledgeable and personable photographer! Glenn knows his stuff and is able to easily convey that to participants. A great mix of theory and field work made it a very enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this workshop, even for rank amateurs like myself!

Thanks for the Astro Photography workshop
I did quite a bit of research into various other companies/individuals and was more than happy to travel 5hrs one way from the hunter valley, NSW to attend rather than go to someone closer. Glen is a very personable person. He is more than happy to share and show everyone in the group each other’s work and to instruct everyone in peoples achievements and errors so everyone can learn and progress together. I can’t thank you enough Glen! Regards Jason

Easy going presentation and excellent field work at Lake George
Met Glenn while he was photographing a wedding and found him to be very knowledgeable and willing to share his expertise particularly in astrophotography. Attending his course was a great decision. Easy going presentation and excellent field work at Lake George. I had many questions which Glenn was happy to provide well understood responses. I was particularly impressed with his honest appraisal of the next steps in astrophotography ‘the potential rabbit hole’ where you might consider buying star trackers, fancy telescopes etc for deep space photography. I highly recommend Glenn for his ‘down to earth’ approach to photography training.

Highly recommend it for all budding astrophotographers
Astrophotography is something which I have been interested in for a while, but didn't know where to start. Then I saw a course organised by Glenn and enrolled for it. I was very impressed with the set up. The preparation email was to the point and very precise as to the equipment requirement as well all aspects of night photography. The classroom component was brilliant. The actual location and shoot was very planned. Even with a basic camera (Canon 60D) and standard kit lens (18 -55) (and not a full frame camera), I was very happy with the result that I achieved. I can only imagine if I apply all those techniques and am able to secure some top of the line equipment, I will be able to take my astrophotography skills to the next level. I would highly recommend it for all budding astrophotographers out there
