The Heart Nebula lies some 7,500 lightyears away from earth and would make a beautiful gift for the galactic love of your life. It was first discovered by William Herschel on 3 November 1787 and If you could see this stunning nebula unaided it would appear around four times larger than our moon!
Because I'm in the southern hemisphere down in Australia, the Heart Nebula never rises above our horizon So this target is a collaboration between US based Tom Bock who captured the seven hours of narrowband data that makes up this image, and Glenn Martin for the processing of the raw files.
